Proud To Be An American

Posted by Michael Michelini on Jul 04 2010

I know sometimes on this blog I kinda pick on USA and some policies, etc – but after being in various parts of China, Asia, and Europe – I still think USA is one kick ass country. There is a great saying, not specifically about Americans, but I’ve heard it applied to all kinds of people -

LOVE , HATED, BUT NEVER IGNORED.

Being an american overseas, I get some cheat shot jokes at me. Fat, lazy, overeating, spoiled americans. haha. Its all in good fun (normally) and I have learned to accept it.

And while I have complained about banking, citizenship, taxes, etc it still doesn’t compare to the benefits – or what it represents.  America is still generally a free country – websites are generally unregulated, can say pretty much anything we want to anyone we want about anything.  Opportunities are generally equal for those who are smart and work hard.

My friend Alan Brackett  posted on facebook -

Cheesy and patriotic, but I’ve always liked this song: “While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCavKL2zdjM

So thought this was a fitting blog entry being July 4th.

And it takes me being outside of USA for over 3 years to really appreciate it. I think so many Americans don’t appreciate what they have, and complain about so many small things. WAKE UP, look at the whole world, and realize the gift you have been give and maximize that!
