thanks Norn, yes I agree, managing people is the hardest part for me. I want everyone to succeed and do well with the company here - but some just should move on to other things.

So, act like a parent, huh? haha, man, I guess thats a good way to think....taking care of children.....but I always saw myself as a cool uncle and an angry dad.......would rather be the cool uncle telling the funny stories at holiday parties....instead of being the responsible father

but adjust i must, like all of us in life.

lets see how it goes.

Mike - I currently work in an environment where the senior managers are all out in the open with no offices except for the real higher ups. Most don't like the set up because there is no privacy - especially when reviews and bonus numbers have to be determined. You also can't have a private phone conversation without being overheard by someone. Fortunately for me, I can block out all the noise and concentrate on doing my job.
Just think of your role like being a parent, giving guidance to your people the way you would your kids. Give them enough freedom to try and make the right decisions but, not too much where, they're slacking. You're very approachable and they will seek you out as needed just as long as you have that open door policy.
Managing people was one of the hardest obstacles I had to overcome and really don't like - I don't envy you one bit. Try and enjoy your privacy now - your company may grow so much that you'll have to move people into your office...
